Choose the interface before planning the next machine.

What process-first tooling selection means for EDM shops reviewing compatible chucks, electrode holders and centering plates.

The industry reading: choose for the process chain

EROWA’s tooling-system selection article, published on 12 March and updated on 6 July 2026, argues for choosing around the manufacturing workflow rather than machine type or workpiece size alone. It distinguishes ITS, larger workholding families and dedicated wire-EDM tooling, and considers future automation requirements.

A second official resource, the EROWA EDM/ITS overview, describes preparing and measuring electrodes outside the machine before transferring them between operations. Together, these sources frame a useful purchasing question: which physical interface must the next component match?

The PLUS AUTO perspective: review the assembly, not just the label

For a buyer expanding an existing installation, a system-family name is the start of the conversation, not a complete ordering specification. PLUS AUTO supplies independently manufactured compatible components. Our review starts with the original reference, the component being replaced or added, and the machine-side assembly that will receive it.

For example, the PA-12001M D100 manual chuck is listed against the ER-036345 reference. A request for that chuck should still identify the mounting arrangement, holder and intended operation. A compatible chuck is not, by itself, confirmation of an entire machining or robotic cell.

Three decisions before requesting a quotation

  1. Identify what stays in the setup. Send the installed chuck or holder reference and photos of its contact surfaces and mounting side. State whether you need a replacement chuck, another electrode holder, a centering plate or a complete assembly.
  2. Check the carrier and mounting details. PLUS AUTO publishes the PA-10001A Centering Plate 50 and PA-10002A Centering Plate 100 as separate models. Compare the relevant drawing with your holder or fixture, including fasteners, support arrangement and available clearance; do not choose solely by a similar-looking photograph.
  3. Describe the next operation. Include the electrode or workpiece, machine, orientation and changeover method. If pneumatic actuation or robotic handling is involved, add the air connections, drawbar or spigot, cleaning provisions and gripper details for a separate review.

Keep system families and evidence separate

An ITS-compatible component should not be assumed to fit UPC, MTS, GTS or a System 3R Macro interface. Wire EDM also deserves its own fixture and clearance review. Browse our EROWA-compatible WEDM tooling for that application, or the separate System 3R-compatible range when that is the installed system.

On PLUS AUTO product pages, original-reference catalogue values and PLUS AUTO specifications are identified separately. Original-manufacturer performance statements are not independent test results for our products. Where fit or operating conditions remain uncertain, request confirmation before ordering.

Turn your current reference into a focused enquiry

Use our compatibility checklist to prepare the original number, target PLUS AUTO model, installation photos, drawing and quantity. If you are deciding how to change electrodes, our manual versus pneumatic chuck guide explains the selection questions to discuss.

Send those details through Request a compatibility check or email info@plusautosolution.com. The goal is a product-specific review for your existing setup, rather than an unsupported promise of universal interchangeability.
